- This month we have been busy learning Syntax Surgery. Syntax Surgery is a methodolgy which is used to help students understand the structure of how words are placed to make sense in a sentence. Students have to understand that every sentence must have two parts, a subject and a verb. Then they must know that a subject can be either a noun or a pronoun. They must know all 8 parts of speech of the English language to rebuild a Grammar Wall. The Grammar Wall helps them sort out words and then put them together to create a meaningful sentence. The 8 parts of speech are listed below with their definitions:
- The 8 Parts of Speech are: Nouns, Pronouns, Verbs, Adjectives, Adverbs, Prepositions, Conjunctions, and Interjections. A noun is a person, place, thing or idea; it can act or be acted upon.
